MIFA Press Release
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Daria Shugaieva Presents New Beginnings: The Poetics of Becoming at Miami International Fine Arts
Miami, FL — Miami International Fine Arts (MIFA) is pleased to present New Beginnings: The Poetics of Becoming, an exhibition by Ukrainian-American contemporary artist Daria Shugaieva, Curated by Olga Garcia-Mayoral. The exhibition will be on view April 9 – May 22, 2026, with an opening reception on Thursday, April 9, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at MIFA, located at 5900 NW 74th Ave, Miami, FL 33166.
New Beginnings explores the quiet emotional processes of personal transformation—the fragile space between vulnerability and growth, where uncertainty slowly gives way to strength. Through a language that moves fluidly between figurative, symbolic, and abstract painting, Shugaieva offers a visual meditation on becoming: not as a final destination, but as an ongoing unfolding of identity, courage, and hope.
Throughout the exhibition, recurring motifs—eggs, birds, ladders, dreamlike imagery, floating spheres, and cosmic patterns—function as poetic metaphors for rebirth and emotional awakening. Eggs suggest fragility and latent potential; birds evoke the courage to move toward freedom; ladders symbolize aspiration and the effort required to rise toward one’s inner light. Circular forms and vibrant color fields reference both the playful imagination of childhood and the resilience that sustains personal evolution.
Drawing inspiration from her own immigration journey and the experience of rebuilding life from the beginning, Shugaieva creates luminous narrative compositions that balance delicately rendered figures with bold expanses of color. Her paintings invite viewers to reconnect with emotional authenticity, imagination, and the possibility of beginning again—quietly, consciously, and without spectacle.

About
Artist Biography
Daria Shugaieva is a contemporary Ukrainian-American artist whose work explores emotional depth through feminine symbolism, surrealist narratives, and refined painterly technique. Her practice centers on themes of vulnerability, transformation, and the quiet strength required to begin again.
Drawing from her personal experience of rebuilding life in the United States after the war in Ukraine, Shugaieva developed a distinctive visual language rooted in symbolism. The egg appears as a recurring motif—an ancient representation of fragility, potential, and rebirth—alongside other elements that reflect inner psychological states.
Working in oil and acrylic, she combines ethereal color fields with intricate detail, creating intimate, dreamlike compositions that invite reflection and emotional connection.
At the core of her current practice is the development of the Visual Anchor Method™️—a structured artistic approach in which each work is paired with a deliberate word placed on the edge of the canvas. These “anchors” function as subtle psychological cues, designed to integrate into the viewer’s daily environment and support mental clarity, focus, and emotional grounding.
Daria’s work has been exhibited across the United States, including during Miami Art Week at Spectrum. She is the subject of a curated solo exhibition at MIFA (Miami International Fine Arts) and will be presenting her work at The Other Art Fair Dallas.
Through her evolving body of work, Shugaieva continues to bridge fine art with personal meaning—creating pieces that are not only seen, but lived with.
